Magazines

Looking at the quotes I recieved from the "Good Hair" doucumentary film, one quote was...“you look at the magazines and you want to be that girl!” – Vanessa Bell Calloway (actor) This made me realise how magazines are one way especially celebrities are made to look gorgeous and expensive, in comparison to any other women's magazine where normal people are not photoshopped and only taken natural pictures of. Most of these magazines would be either based on fashion or film, below are a few annotated examples of this.

Here is a perfect example of what I am trying to show, as you can see Faith Hill in this picture looks like what she is, a typical 40 year old mother in good health and shape.

30 out of 40 people I asked said she looked better without all the editing.
In this final picture Faith Hill has been digitally manipulated to have thinner arms, no flab on the waist, no wrinkles blacker eyes, thinner dress, image with a low contrast- adding a young glow look to her, thinner back, and also an added right arm.
This shows us how even though she looks fine in the before image, she has been changed so much from the smallest things to make her look completely flawless.

In this image of Kate Winslett, the editors forgot to edit the picture in the mirror, showing exactly how much she was made thinner.
There were more of these examples from the website http://jezebel.com/5426296/
Even though celebrities already wear a lot of make up into photo shoots for these magazine covers, they are also then further edited to make them look even more flawless and beautiful. Below i have taken some second hand pictures of celebrities in their photo shoot, and then edited them further in photoshop to demonstrate this effect.
